Surveying
The surveying process is a way for me to know how much the public knows about immigration reform and immigrant struggles for non immigrants. It is also a nice way to understand immigrant struggles through statistics and their first hand responses.
Results (from General Survey)
I have compiled responses from thirty students in Science Leadership Academy. About 70% of the students claimed they know a lot about immigration (from a scale of 3-4). However, only 10% (scale 5) are well informed about immigration.
Topics Ranking
1.) More Job Opportunities
In almost any workplace, there are immigrants. However, few immigrants have decent paying jobs. Some residents still feel resent immigrants because of job competition.
2.) Educational Development
Documented immigrants have difficulty adapting to the cultures and academic curriculums. Undocumented immigrants, on the other hand, can not go to college without proper documentation, such as Social Security Card or a Green Card. Some who do, have limited tuition and scholarship opportunities. This problem urges the Dream Act to pass. It also enables other kind institutions to provide scholarship and funds to undocumented immigrants.
3.) Health Care
The high costs of health care and health insurance coverage prevents most immigrants, who have low incomes, to afford.
